Pizarro goals send Peru through |
Recent Chelsea signing Claudio Pizarro scored both goals - including a late equaliser - as Peru qualified for the last eight of the Copa America.
Bolivia were heading for their first victory in a Copa America fixture since 1997 when Pizarro headed home a free-kick from Juan Carlos Marino with five minutes left.

Up to that point it had been a disappointing second-half performance from Peru, who had Joel Herrera sent-off in the 77th-minute for a second bookable offence, barely 20 minutes after coming on.
Bolivia, who would have qualified had they won, took the lead through Jaime Moreno's lob after 24 minutes.
But Peru equalised nine minutes later when Paolo Guerrero headed a free-kick into the ground and inside the left post.
Bolivia, though, went into the break with the advantage thanks to a strike from Jhasmany Campos.
And it looked as though they would hold on for victory until Pizarro struck to take Peru on to four points and second place in the group.
Peru coach Julio Cesar Uribe:
"I'm not content because it was very difficult for us to achieve our goal of qualifying. "As a team we were far from playing at our top level in the first half. "This team has to improve. Some players are not playing well enough to make this squad as good as it is capable of being. We are going to keep improving for the future."
Bolivia coach Erwin Sanchez:
"With a little extra luck we could've qualified. "But we're going with our heads held high because nobody was able to crush us, nobody steamrolled past us. It was just this one late goal that eliminated us." |
