Rains, flood affectees would be fully compensated: Musharraf

President Pervez Musharraf has assured that those who have suffered owing to rains and floods in Balochistan would be fully compensated. He stated this during a briefing at the Turbat International Airport on Friday.

The president expressed deep sorrow on his behalf and on behalf of the Government of Pakistan on the losses suffered by the people because of the floods and rains

He recalled that at the time of October 2005 massive earthquake, he had expressed the resolve of converting that crisis in an opportunity, the same approach would be adopted in this very case.

The president said that the rehabilitation and reconstruction in this case would be better than before and the lives of the people would be improved. He said that this is my promise with the people who have suffered owing to floods and rains.

Musharraf said that the government would extend every possible assistance.

He stated that those who had been affected because of the level of the Mirani Dam would be fully compensated financially.

The president announced that the compensation in this case, which was earlier assessed at the 244 feet level of the Dam, would now be increased to 264 feet.

He said that the houses that had been destroyed would be constructed anew and these would be better houses.

Musharraf said the government want to give money to the people immediately.

He announced that every household would be given a sum of Rs.15,000 each immediately.

The president said that the damage of the house would be assessed and money would be given for a new and a better house construction.

He said that the poor people of this area would be supported fully and their lives would be improved.

Earlier, the president was briefed about the losses that were caused due to rains and floods in various districts of Balochistan.

He was also apprised of the relief and rehabilitation activities performed by the armed forces in association with the civil administration.

Governor Balochistan Awais Ahmed Ghani, Chief Minister Jam Muhammad Yousuf were also present on the occasion.
